South Carolina 1A Wrestling State Dual Championship 2006-2007

1A Dual State Finals - Saturday, February 10 (State Finals at Lugoff-Elgin)

#2 Chesterfield vs. #22 Bamberg-Ehrhardt
Let's start with how big these two schools are:

#153 out of 195 schools - Chesterfield 518 students
#155 out of 195 schools - Bamberg-Ehrhardt 508 students

Then we can check out the team trophy count:

State 3rd in the lineup - Chesterfield 0, Bamberg-Ehrhardt 1
State 4th in the lineup - Chesterfield 0, Bamberg-Ehrhardt 0
State Qualifiers lineup - Chesterfield 2, Bamberg-Ehrhardt 1

This is a historical year --- the first ever in S.C. for a 1A State Wrestling Title!
The 1A coaches really wanted this last year and had to wait until this year for the
final approvals to clear through the SCHSL. The irony is there really is only one
team all along that everyone knew would win this 1A title. For several years now
Chesterfield has competed with every team across the state 1A through 4A and defeated
most every opponent. In 2004 and 2005 they captured Dual State Titles in 1A-2A and also
finished as Dual State Runner-up in 2006. Not bad for a 1A school that has 500 students.
Coach Lance Abernathy has proven that he can have the best 14 of those 500 students and
take on anybody. Bamberg-Ehrhardt has also had a solid program for years and this year
they can lay claim to being in the finals to claim 1st or 2nd. Coach Derek Ayers has
many solid wrestlers including 2 juniors - 125 Larry Long (Jr., 2006 119 3rd) and
140 Laquinn Nimmons (Jr., 2006 125 SQ). Chesterfield counters with two very talented
freshman at 103 and 112 likely to win state titles - Elijah Burr and Ian Harper.
Chesterfield also brings talent with 119 Steven James (Sr., 2006 130 SQ, 2005 125 SQ),
#1 ranked 125 Trey Alley (Jr., 2006 103 1st, 2005 103 2nd),
#1 ranked 130 Dalton Harper (Jr., 2006 125 1st, 2005 112 1st) and
145 Parker Anderson (Jr., 2006 145 SQ). We pick an easy selection for winning ...
SCMAT Prediction - Chesterfield wins
