South Carolina 3A Wrestling State Dual Championship 2006-2007

The 2nd Round of the 3A State Dual Championships for Wednesday, February 7 looks like this:

Upper State Bracket

#2 Eastside (1st seed) at home vs. #11 Greenville (5th seed)
Coach Jack Kosmicki, who was a high school wrestler in New York, has Eastside's line-up settling
just in time. Eastside is starting 4-5 freshman, 3-4 sophomores, 5 juniors and 1 senior. That's
scary for the rest of the competition the next few years. But, Coach Kos is not looking ahead
to next year ... he wants to win three more matches this year. Greenville had a nice win on the
road at Camden Monday night, congratulations Coach Bowe! Hopefully this isn't a surprise pick for
anyone, but the 3x reigning state champs get the nod again this round ...
SCMAT Prediction - Eastside wins

#3 Lugoff-Elgin (2nd seed) at home vs. #10 Pickens (3rd seed)
Lugoff-Elgin has to be looking slightly forward to Friday's match, taking nothing away from a very
good Pickens team. For five straight years Lugoff-Elgin and Eastside have met in the Dual State
playoffs and Eastside has had the Demons number 4 of those 5 years.
2006 Upper State Finals - Eastside 39, Lugoff-Elgin 24
2005 Upper State Finals - Eastside 50, Lugoff-Elgin 27
2004 Upper State Finals - Eastside defeated Lugoff-Elgin
2003 Upper State Finals - Lugoff-Elgin 30, Eastside 27
2002 State Finals - Eastside 36, Lugoff-Elgin 30
Eventually you got to get the monkey off your back and this year won't be easy if Lugoff-Elgin
sees Eastside in Round 3. We think the match up is in the books and we'll see an absolute
thriller Friday and likely again Saturday in the 3A Finals with the Lower State Champ ...
SCMAT Prediction - Lugoff-Elgin wins

Lower State Bracket

#1 North Myrtle Beach (1st seed) at home vs. #9 Bluffton (5th seed)
Bluffton evidently didn't want to let Lake City get close in the Monday match! Impressive
road win for Coach John Hollman's team. North Myrtle Beach finished well ahead of Bluffton
at the Hardee's Blue Devil Tournament at Dreher in January, and though Dual matches can be
totally different than tournaments, we think the long ride from the lower edge of SC's coast
to the top of our coast will take a slight toll on the visitors ...
SCMAT Prediction - North Myrtle Beach wins

#4 Hilton Head (2nd seed) at home vs. #5 Chapin (3rd seed)
It doesn't get any closer than this! A very good 2A team from two years back (Chapin) moves into
the 3A neighborhood and finds a very good 4A team that just moved down to 3A in the same
neighborhood. This will be the first playoff meeting between these schools, and it should be
one of the closest Wednesday night matches, probably coming down to the last match. Weights
125-135 and 189 appear to be some key matches for Chapin to win 2 or 3 of the 4 if they want
to move on ... the slight nod goes to the home team ...
SCMAT Prediction - Hilton Head wins

Higher seeded team will always be the Home team.
