Carolina Wrestling Announces Transfer
Tar Heels will have Oklahoma transfer Joseph "Ben" Connell next seasonDec.
16, 2002 Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina assistant
wrestling coach, C.D. Mock, announced this morning that Joseph "Ben"
Connell will be attending school at Carolina in the fall of 2003. Connell, a
transfer from the University of Oklahoma, red-shirted at OU and will be
wrestling for the Tar Heels next season as a heavyweight. He attended Lugoff-Elgin
High School, in Lugoff, S.C., and graduated in June of 2000. Connell was a
senior national champion and will have four years of eligibility here at UNC.
"Ben is going to add some much needed depth to our upperweights," said
2003-04 head coach C.D. Mock. "Although he's been on a mission for the last
year-and-a-half,, he's exceedingly talented and I believe has the potential to
become an All-American." UNC will be in action Thursday, Dec. 19th at the
Reno Invitational, in Reno, Nev. The Tar Heels will compete against several
ranked opponents, including No. 1 Oklahoma State.
