Piccard Leads The Citadel to Third Place at Cornell Invitational By Al Buddin Nov. 21,
Ithaca, NY - Junior Travis Piccard captured first place in the 157-pound weight class and six others placed
as The Citadel earned 105 team points to capture third place at the Cornell/Body Bar Invitational Saturday
at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. The team title went to sixth ranked Michigan with 139.5 points, while
host school and 12th ranked Cornell finished second with 131 points. The Citadel defeated 19th ranked
Edinboro (99), Army (94), Virginia (66), Drexel (59.5), Maryland (33), Davidson (25.5), Sacred Heart (21),
and Ithaca (19.5). Piccard scored a 10-5 victory over Cornell's John Cholish in the final round to earn
the championship. Piccard posted a 4-0 mark for the tournament after receiving a first round bye.
Seniors Ryan McClester (133) and Sean Markey (141) each earned second place finishes in their respective
weight classes. McClester went 3-1 with his lone loss coming in the final round to Cornell's Travis Lee
by a 15-3 major decision, while Markey went 4-1 and lost the final round when Edinboro's Ron Doppeleuer
pinned him at the 2:36 mark. At 125 pounds, junior Brad Ragan took third place with a 12-9 decision over
Drexel's Dan Stewart in the consolation final. The win gave Ragan a record of 4-1 for the tournament.
In the 174-pound weight class, freshman Darius Caldwell bounced back from a first round loss and won
four straight matches before Cornell's Luke Hogle defeated him in the consolation final with a fall at 3:25.
Caldwell finished the tournament with a record of 4-2. Junior Dan Thompson went 3-2 at 165 pounds and
pinned Ithaca's Mark Israel at the 2:10 mark in the fifth place match, while Senior Keith Clifton went 1-3
with a first round bye in the 184-pound weight class and lost by medical forfeit to Army's Charles Martin
in the fifth place match. The Bulldogs will return to action on December 3 when they will participate in
the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas, NV.

Blue/White Scrimmage Sets up Bulldog Depth Chart By Al Buddin Nov. 15, 2004
Charleston, SC - The 2004 Southern Conference regular season and tournament champion Citadel Bulldog wrestling team
set the pace for the season as well as their depth chart for the season at the Blue/White intra-squad meet held this
past Saturday in Vandiver Hall. In the 125-pound weight class, senior Ryan McClester - 2004 SoCon Champion and Wrestler
of the Year - claimed the starting spot when he defeated junior Brad Ragan, 12-7. Ragan will serve as the back-up at
125 pounds. For the 141-pound class senior Sean Markey emerged as the frontrunner after defeating senior Mike Martinez
with a 21-6 technical fall and then downing junior Nolan Roggenkamp by a 15-4 major decision. Roggenkamp also beat
Martinez with a 5-4 decision to take the back-up spot at 141 pounds. At 149 pounds, sophomore Levi Duyn claimed the
starting spot with a 7-1 decision over freshman Jacob Allman. Senior Mike Martinez will serve as Duyn's back-up in the
149-pound weight class, while Allman will take the second spot at 157 pounds. Freshman John Buck won the starting spot
at 174 pounds when, after losing to freshman Darius Caldwell 5-3, he defeated junior John Dickerson by a 9-5 decision and
then beat Caldwell 8-1. Caldwell shored up the back-up job by beating Dickerson 12-10. The Bulldogs will start their
2004-05 season this Saturday when they head to Ithica, NY to participate in the Cornell-Body Bar Invitational.

Tar Heels Open Season with Blue-White Match
Former Lugoff-Elgin star, Ben Connell, wins via fall. Nov. 14, 2004

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Highlighted by pins by sophomores Nick Buckman and Ben Connell and freshman Daniel Llamas,
the North Carolina wrestling team kicked off the 2004-05 season with its annual Blue-White Match Sunday at
Carmichael Auditorium. Buckman, a transfer from Penn State, downed fellow transfer Kyle Shelton from
Oklahoma State at 157 pounds, while Connell pinned Spencer Nadolsky in the heavyweight match-up.
